Starbucks Steals Chipotle’s CEO

On Tuesday, August 13th Starbucks announced their (now former) CEO, Laxman Narasimhan, was being replaced with (now former) CEO of Chipotle, Brian Niccol.

Essentially, Starbucks stole the CEO of Chipotle. This sparked a rush of memes on the internet. My favorite was from my friend, Dividend Hero

How did the each stock react on this news?

Starbucks (SBUX) jumped 21% on Tuesday morning following the news of the new CEO.

Chipotle (CMG) fell 12% on Tuesday morning following the news of losing their CEO.

Brian is getting a nice little pay bump at Starbucks. His compensation package:

Base pay: $1.6 million annually

Cash bonus opportunity: $7.2 million

Equity bonus opportunity: $23 million

For leaving Chipotle, he is receiving:

Cash: $10 million

Equity: $75 million

During his time as CEO of Chipotle, the stock climbed 773%. Starbucks is hoping he can bring the same success to their company.

He officially takes over as CEO on September 9th, 2024.

What is the takeaway? It looks like a good hire for Starbucks, as their stock has struggled for the past 5 years (pretty much flat). It will be interesting to watch Starbucks over the coming years with Brian the the helm.

What is the takeaway? By the time I am of age to receive Social Security Benefits, they will probably already be paid out to someone else lol. In all seriousness, it is important to make sure you are keeping an eye on your identity. It may make sense to look into identity protection plans.

Warren Buffett Updates His Holdings, Buys ULTA & HEI.A

What is the takeaway? Warren Buffett makes some changes to the Berkshire Portfolio. Most notably the 49.33% reduction in AAPL stock + addition of ULTA & HEI.A
